BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic 15-amino-acid pentadecapeptide derived from a partial sequence of a cytoprotective protein found in human gastric juice. Its stable aqueous behaviour and ready commercial availability have made it one of the most referenced subjects in modern in-vitro cytoprotection research.
Research groups have used BPC-157 as a tool compound in studies examining nitric oxide synthase activity, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signalling, and focal-adhesion kinase (FAK)/paxillin pathway regulation — all of which are implicated in angiogenesis and directed cell migration in culture models.
