AOD-9604 is a 16-amino-acid synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminal fragment (residues 177–191) of human growth hormone (hGH), with an additional N-terminal tyrosine residue and a disulphide bond between Cys residues that constrains the peptide's conformation. It was initially characterised by researchers at Monash University as a C-terminal fragment of hGH.
Unlike full-length hGH, AOD-9604 does not bind the classical hGH receptor (GHR) with significant affinity in standard receptor-binding assays. It is used in vitro as a tool compound for studying the structure–activity relationship of C-terminal hGH fragments and their interaction with β3-adrenergic-receptor signalling in isolated adipocyte cell models.
The peptide's restricted receptor-pharmacology profile compared to hGH makes it a useful tool compound in studies seeking to dissect the growth-promoting and metabolic-signalling functions of growth hormone from its individual structural domains.
